Commentary on the first death sentence via a jury trial in Japan

On November 16, 2010 the Yokohama District Court handed down the first death sentence since the jury system began in Japan. The “Yokohama Port mutilation murder” was a case that stood out for its brutality and drew attention to the burden placed on the citizen judges.

Midori Tanioka (née Kawagoe), observed the trial in person and has been covering the case, here is her studio commentary.
