On January 14, 2009 Professor Hajime Takakubo of the Faculty of Science and Engineering was murdered on the Chuo University campus. The campus; the scene of the incident, was under strict vigilance.

On September 21, 2008 a 5-year-old girl was tragically murdered on a street near a park in Togane, Chiba Prefecture. The police were conducting an intensive investigation at the scene.
